AUSTIN, Texas (KEYE) — This upcoming Tuesday’s general election features a proposition that will help state parks.

If passed, Proposition 14 would give $1 billion to help secure new parks for future generations. People will have the chance Tuesday to head to polling locations and decide if they want to help Texas state parks.

“I hope there’s another [park] like this,” said a Troop 78784 Girl Scout at McKinney Falls State Park. “There should be more!”

If Prop. 14 passes, people like the girls in Girl Scout Troop 78784 we caught up with at the state park may get their wish of wanting to see more state parks in Texas. The proposition would establish the Centennial Parks Conservation Fund and give the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department up to $1 billion in funding for more parkland.

“There’s not a lot of parks that are within driving distance for many people in Texas that are in urban areas, so certainly finding more park land and available space for people that are close to those urban centers is increasingly important,” said Texas Coalition for State Parks spokesperson Jenifer Sarver…
