$1 Billion Constitutional Amendment for State Parks on November Ballot

 

Sen. Tan Parker is leading a coalition promoting the establishment of a trust fund specifically to buy land for state parks.

On November 7, Texans will vote on 14 new constitutional amendments, the 14th of which is a $1 billion proposal to create a fund to buy land for state parks.


The Centennial Parks Conservation Fund would be a trust fund outside of the state treasury dedicated to the creation and improvement of state parks.


Funding would consist of Legislature-appropriated monies, gifts to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), and the fund’s own investment earnings. The fund will also cover the costs associated with managing it. The $1 billion investment to start the fund has already been appropriated in the 2024-25 General Appropriations Act…
